Painting Pixels

For our second painting day, we focused on painting some classic video game elements.

First, to achieve the latticed look of the girders for Donkey Kong, we colored in TONS of small, pixelated triangles on our red cardboard using giant markers. We all took turns to tackle the vast, repetitive task.

Grace, Katy and Ryan painted over-size candy for the Candy Crush part of the display. They wished that the candy was real.

Grandpa John oversaw the work!

Ryan painted Pac Man (both sides!)

Michelle and Grace painted the Pac Man ghosts (in their state once Pac Man has eaten the power pellet).

Everyone pitched in to fill in more shapes – this time rectangles as part of the ladders for Donkey Kong.

By the end of the day we had painted giant pieces of Candy Crush candy, Pac Man and all his ghost friends, miles of Donkey Kong girders and ladders, Super Mario backdrop elements, and more!

Thanks to everyone who came out to help! You are amazing!

If you would like to help with the next community painting day, come on by! It will be Saturday, October 20th from 9:00 am – noon at our house. See the How to Help page for more details.
