In the Mandalorian show, Din Djarin earns beskar ingots for completing his bounty hunting job. Beskar is a special metal in the Star Wars universe which can repel both blaster fire and lightsaber attacks. The Mandalorians craft their armor out of beskar for maximum protection. As the acquiring of those ingots is a key point in the series (and allows Mando to go from shabby to shiny), I wanted to create some ingots that would be displayed on a table in our set (cuz that’s where all the deals go down).
Here are shots from the show where a stack of beskar ingots is in a camtoto (safe that looks like an ice cream maker) and a close up of one ingot.

To get started, I created a texture in Photoshop to match the wavy lines and Imperial embossing seen in the show.

I then used my laser cutter to engrave and cut out the ingot faces.

I then cut wood into the shapes of a typical ingot, and then glued the ingot faces to each of the blocks. I finished each off by sanding all the edges.

I then spray painted them a chrome/metallic silver color.

In the show, the grooves on the ingots appear darker/deeper, so to replicate that, I did a wash of black paint (just really watered down black paint). This lets paint flow into the grooves. Then, after wiping the surface, the black stays in the grooves making them appear darker.

All that was left was to add those ingots into my own camtoto, and pretend that I had done a great job at my bounty hunting job.

If you come by for Halloween see if you can spot the ingots within our Mandalorian set!
