We pondered not doing a front yard display for Halloween 2020, but based on the encouragement of our friends, we have decided to still do a Halloween house this October! The theme for this year is: The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Typically, we try to create an ‘immersive front-yard experience,’ inviting guests to walk through the yard and up on to our porch so that they can feel as if they are in the movie or story environment of that year’s theme.
As you probably guessed, it does not make sense to have an event which encourages people to gather and hang out in close proximity. So, we will do things a little differently this year.
This year, we will have more of a ‘walk by/drive by’ display featuring the many fun elements of the classic movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Guests will see Oogie Boogie, Zero, the Mayor, nightmare-ish Christmas toys, the iconic swirling ledge silhouetted against a Halloween moon and more! There will even be costumed characters out front to wave to folks, including Jack Skellington and Sally.
The display will be viewable from the sidewalk or street, and has been designed so that it is easily viewable from a passing car – kind of like when you drive to see Christmas lights. In addition, we will most likely keep the display up for more than just one night (this is a first for the Albertson Halloween Hosue), so that people don’t feel like they have to see it on Halloween, which will hopefully reduce the chances of a crowded scene. We will have other updates about accessibility in the coming weeks, but we want to let you know that while we will not have guests walk among the set pieces or line up to get treats on the porch, there still will be a display, and it will be designed to be taken in in a safe manner.
Looking forward to posting about this year’s house in the coming weeks.
“Here comes Halloween!”
