AT-RT Rising

The first time we did a Star Wars theme, I built a 1/4 scale AT-ST. I had always dreamed of making a full-sized AT-AT across the front of our house, but could never get approval from my wife for that. 🙂 The Mandalorian and Grogu movie did me a favor this year by having AT-RTs (All Terrain Reconnaissance Transports) in several scenes. These are one-person mechanical Imperial walkers…that conveniently happen to be the size that would fit in one’s front yard.

For the main skeleton of the walker, I used 1″ black pipe.

I then created the feet, which would serve as the anchor point for the walker’s legs.

From there, I built up the black pipe structure, and then went back and reinforced it with wood for strength and safety.

For the feet, I cut a wastebasket that I had gotten at a going out of business sale in half, and added wooden ‘toes’ on either side.

To dress the legs, I added insulation foam, cardboard tubes, and dollar store egg storage container lids.

Here are the legs, all ready for painting.

For the top part where the AT-RT Driver rides, I utilized a bike box and cut the top contour to replicate the seat area.

There are more steps to come, but I wanted to share where we are with this project.
